Olivia is 4!

I can’t believe my girl is 4 years old.  This year flew by so quickly and Olivia has changed so much.  I don’t know how to explain it except that she is such a big girl now.  She can do so many things for herself now and she takes a lot of pride in being able to accomplish things with little or no help.  She still pretends most of the time and has recently taken in a lot of orphan friends, animals and unicorns.  The level of thought she puts into her pretend play is incredible and I hope she can hold on to this as grows up.  She loves books and can recognize all of her letters.  We do lessons a few times a week to connect the letter sounds to the letters and she loves this time.  She has learned A, B, H, G, S, T and P.  We have also worked with blending them and she can now (with some effort) read many words including; hat, taps, sat, pam, bat, etc.  She read through two early books the other day and the excitement was totally unreal.  She still loves music and makes up new songs everyday.  She also loves to create and can work on an art project for hours at a time.

I love the sweetness that is this girl.  She takes good care of all of us, always willing to give mom and dad a back rub or grab a diaper for Daniel when he needs it.  She is eager to learn and eager to play and always ready to try new things.  She is a good sister, a good cousin and a wonderful daughter.

Happy Birthday Princess.  We love you more than you’ll ever know.

On turning 30…

As of Friday (Nov. 6th) I am 30 years old!  Many people have asked me if I was going to have a hard time turning 30 and I have to say no, I really wasn’t dreading turning 30.  I am sure that at some point the tide will turn but so far I have only enjoyed getting older, I guess life just keeps getting better and better.

My birthday is normally pretty uneventful, usually one of my presents from the guys is getting to sit around all day and read, but this year we changed things up a little and kept ourselves busy ALL DAY.  So here’s a little preview of my perfect day…  First up, an eggnog latte.  Yumm!  Then stopped by Round Table to pick up a little pizza and drop it off at Josh’s school for lunch.  Next up, my birthday present, a tattoo.  We had to wait while he drew up my design so we took a little stroll around Beaverton and read magazines at the library.  I think we caught the last little bit of sunshine while on our walk, it was crisp and beautiful out.

Here it is.  I couldn’t be happier with the way it came out.

After picking Josh up from school we went to dinner with family and friends at the Delta Cafe.  The food was delicious, the atmosphere was fun and the company was amazing.

Thank you to all of you who came or called or sent a message or card.  You all made the day truly and completely magical.

From 2 to 12…

Now for Joshua’s post.  I can’t believe that my Josh is 12!  Though it shouldn’t really be hard to believe, he has been a part of my life for so long that I can barely remember a life without him.  I was really still a child myself in a lot of ways when I became his mom and he has taught me so much about what life is and what I want my life to be.

Josh is love, kindness and compassion in human form.  He is an amazing brother, an extremely helpful son, and a loyal friend.  He manages to be funny and cool and thoughtful all at the same time.  He is stubborn and independent which certainly leads to plenty of battles but in the end I know that it is going to serve him well.  It has been such an adventure watching him grow into the person he is.  And that person is truly wonderful.

2 Years

September 19th Daniel turned 2!  My baby - 2!  I can hardly believe it.  So, in honor of Daniel’s 2nd birthday, here’s a short picture documentary of his journey thus far…

All three of the kids bring such wonderfully different personalities to this family and Daniel is our little clown.  My Dad has started calling him the jester and it is such a suitable nickname!   I often talk about what a trouble maker Daniel is (and it’s all true!) but he makes up for every ounce of trouble he causes with his sweet and silly antics.  I have never met a child so eager to make people smile and he rarely misses an opportunity to be the center of everyone’s attention.  Daniel is a constant reminder to us not to take life too seriously and our lives are so much richer because of the love and laughter he has brought into our lives.

Happy Birthday Baby Boy!!  We love you.
